Agriculture

Professional Development
For over 15 years, OIACI has conducted agricultural professional development missions from Ohio to Israel. The purpose of these missions is to expose Ohio agricultural professionals, legislatures, and business owners to innovative practices and technologies coming out of Israel, a world leader in the field. We organize these professional development missions around international conferences, tradeshows, and exhibitions, which gives participants the added opportunity to network with professionals in their field from around the world. Further enriching the experience is exclusive site tours of Israeli agricultural facilities which we secure through our connections in Israel. These tours allow the participants to see technologies and practices first-hand and speak one-on-one with the people who create and operate these systems.

Examples of past missions include:

  • Agritech is the largest agriculture tradeshow in the Middle East, drawing over 25,000 visitors from around the world. OIACI has created multiple missions around this triennial tradeshow, supplementing tradeshow information with industry-specific site visits of Israeli agricultural sites.
  • AgroMashov is one of the larger agricultural tradeshows in the Middle East, drawing thousands of visitors from around the world. The annual tradeshow highlights products, processes, and technology from all sectors of agriculture and agribusiness. In past OIACI missions, Ohio company representatives attending AgroMashov had the opportunity to conduct meetings with potential clients and distributors and make business contacts in their areas of interest.
  • Aquaculture Missions which were built around site visits rather than a professional conference. OIACI has conducted multiple aquaculture missions tailored to the specific interests of our program participants.

Presentations & Seminars
OIACI works one-on-one with Israeli businesses that develop methods and technologies relevant to the Ohio agricultural industry to exhibit their products in Ohio through presentations and seminars. This method of dissemination allows Ohio professionals easy, local access to international practices that have the potential to address Ohio industry needs.

Examples of past presentations and seminars include:

  • Drip Irrigation and Fertigation presentations
  • Northeast Ohio Agribusiness Meeting presentations on agricultural trade with Israel, trends in Israeli agricultural technology, and other topics in the field

Economic Development

Projects
Global trade is vital to sustainable development in today’s economy, and OIACI works to create trade opportunities between Israel and Ohio that help each develop their global presence. Through our trade projects, we introduce agricultural products and technologies that can be exported from one region to another. Our relationships with agricultural businesses in both regions allow us to fluently facilitate, cutting down barriers, and bringing all parties to a mutually accessible starting point.

Examples of past trade projects include:

  • Groundwork BioAg is an Israeli company that develops, produces, and commercializes mycorrhizal inoculants for mainstream agriculture. Mycorrhizal fungi form symbiotic relationships with plants which extend the root system and helps plants absorb nutrients in the soil. This increases plant yields while applying less fertilizer, which can save costs to Ohio farmers and reduce local water run-off pollution. OIACI continues to work with Groundwork to explore export opportunities to Ohio.
  • Select Sires, Inc./World Wide Sires Ltd. is an Ohio company that has been exporting dairy and beef cattle genetics to Israel. OIACI has helped promote Select Sires’ product to Israeli cattlemen, and the company has worked with OIACI on two shipments of embryos to Israel.

If you are an Ohio business owner interested in assistance with importing or exporting an agricultural product or technology to or from Israel, please contact us.

Tradeshows & Exhibitions
Beyond facilitating business connections, OIACI actively promotes Ohio and Israeli businesses in local and international tradeshows and exhibitions. Examples of events we have participated in include:

  • AgroMashov is one of the larger agricultural tradeshows in the Middle East. The annual tradeshow highlights products, processes, and technology from all sectors of agriculture and agribusiness. The Ohio pavilion, part of OIACI’s ongoing efforts to enhance Ohio-Israel agribusiness relations, featured Ohio agribusinesses, which received the exposure they sought to attract buyers from Israel, and countries in Asia, Africa, and Europe.
  • The Ohio Farm Science Review is one of the nation’s premier agricultural trade and education shows, with 120,000 participants attending during the three-day event. OIACI has attended the event for many years, showcasing Israeli agricultural technologies.
  • The Ohio Produce Growers & Marketing Association provides educational and business development opportunities to businesses associated with the production and marketing of Ohio’s fresh produce. OIACI staff members have participated in multiple OPGMA educational and promotional events over the years.

If you think your Israeli agricultural system or technology can positively impact Ohio, or if you manufacture agricultural goods in Ohio, please contact us to learn more about our promotion process.

Lectures
To increase awareness of trade opportunities between Ohio and Israel, senior OIACI staff are invited to speak at Ohio agricultural events. Examples of past events include:

  • Ohio State University South Centers events
  • The Northeast Ohio Agribusiness Forum
  • Going Global Monthly International Trade Forums at Kent State University

If you are interested in inviting our staff to lecture about Israeli trade opportunities at your event, please contact us.

Research & Technology

As climates and communities change, the need for innovations in the agricultural industry grow. In Ohio specifically, agricultural professionals are facing changing growing conditions and an escalating concern of water pollution from agricultural runoff. Additionally, as in any industry, there is an interest in reducing costs and increasing profits. OIACI continually monitors these needs and seeks opportunities to facilitate R&D partnerships, demonstrate new technologies, and explore the use of field trials.

Examples of past projects include:

  • Field trials for Groundwork BioAg, which manufactures seed coatings that extend root systems. OIACI assisted Groundwork with identifying farmers and universities with an interest in working with the company on this project. This resulted in paid field trials with contract research organizations and OSU Extension research groups.
  • Ongoing Demos for drip irrigation & other Israeli technologies at OSU South Centers
  • Agam Demo for Israeli greenhouse dehumidification technology in Ohio’s climate
